Number 1: Lots of water!

  • Take a swim to exercise your neck, back, hips and legs. Moving about helps to pump the blood and release endorphins – those “feel good” hormones that relieve pain. Plus swimming is a low impact exercise and is good for everyone and all fitness levels.
  • Add Epsom salts to bath water for a warm, peaceful treat.
  • Shower to relax and help wash the cares of the day away.
  • Drink lots of water to hydrate the discs in your spine and help with
    back spasms. Adding lemon slices to the water will provide a little flavor!

Number 2: Fool Your Mind by Focusing Elsewhere

  • Watch a movie
  • Sew or embroider
  • Read a good book
  • Meditate

Number 3: Allow Yourself a Treat

A little chocolate or one glass of wine daily can brighten your spirits and help you feel better, if only temporarily.

Number 4: Use Hot and Cold Packs Wisely

Here are some favorite exercises that patients say have brought relief for neck, back, hip or leg pain:

  • Yoga for balance, strength, and breathing right. Yoga relaxes the mind and strengthens the spine.
  • Walking outdoors while enjoying the sunshine. You’ll boost both your heart rate and mood. Sometimes a good stretch to the hamstrings will help to relieve lower back pain.
